What is Nutritional Yeast? Red Star brand is the original formula and here is there definition straight from the label ? Vegetarian Support Formula was first manufactured in 1975. A valuable source of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, vitamins, dietary fiber and minerals, its popularity has grown worldwide as individuals have become more aware of their day-to-day health ? Red Star Nutritional Yeast Vegetarian Support Formula is especially designed to meet the nutritional needs of vegetarians, vegans and anyone desiring a rich source of the B-complex vitamins, including B-12. It makes a tasty and nutritious addition to your favorite meals and drinks. Sprinkle on popcorn for a great-tasting, nutritious snack. Add as a seasoning for salads, soups, casseroles and gravies. Or simply add a tablespoon to your favorite morning juice, cereal or smoothie.

A few years back, I used to be vegan. I have to admit, it was very difficult for me because I love, love, love cheese and it was very challenging and burdensome for me to give it up. This product saved my life, literally. Because vegans don?t consume meat or any type of animal products, it can be quite challenging to get b-12 in your diet. These little yellow flakes are tasty, convenient and loaded with nutrition. Although, I am no longer vegan, I do favor lots of vegan/vegetarian recipes and this product really adds the flavor. Not to mention, it?s low in carbs and high in protein so it works with my low carb, diabetic lifestyle.

Nutritional yeast (basically a powdered yeast with no leavening power) has a robust essence that is described as cheesy, nutty, or creamy, which makes it very popular as an ingredient in?cheese?substitutes. Often used by vegans in place of cheese, it can be used in many recipes to add complexity of flavors. It is naturally high in protein and fiber, while low in fat and sodium, with no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. This stuff contains an average of 50% protein by weight and just look at this nutrient profile ?
