New drug has significantly delays prostate cancer to spread to ...

A new drug Xgeva (denosumab) ?has been found that can significantly delay the time it takes for prostate cancer to spread to bone, and to cause bone pain. Injections of?Xgeva delayed disease progression by 4.2 months compared with placebo injections.?

There is a 33% reduction in the risk of developing symptoms of bone metastases, mainly pain? has been evident. At a meeting of the American Urological Association a cumulative 4.6% of denosumab patients were diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the jaw.
Rates of osteonecrosis of the jaw in 1.1% at year one, 2.9% at year two and 4.2% at year three ? were seen in patients with advanced cancer.
Osteonecrosis of the jaw is generally readily manageable. This study shows?significantly delayed worsening of pain in prostate cancer patients.
